MOQ, Lead Time and Shipping: How B2B Furniture Sourcing Works

How minimum order quantities, production lead times and shipping terms work when buying furniture wholesale for a store or project.

Buying furniture wholesale is different from buying retail. Three numbers shape every B2B furniture sourcing decision: the minimum order quantity (MOQ), the production lead time, and the shipping terms. Here is how they fit together.

What is an MOQ and why does it exist?

MOQ is the smallest order a manufacturer will produce. It reflects how production is planned — materials are cut, frames are built and fabrics are reserved per batch. Retailers who understand MOQ can plan assortments that combine several models into one order, which usually improves both price and scheduling.

Lead time: production plus logistics

Lead time covers manufacturing and, where relevant, consolidation. A realistic furniture lead time is measured in weeks, not days. Ask for the production lead time separately from the shipping time, and build both into your retail calendar before you commit to a launch date.

Shipping terms: FOB, CIF and DDP explained simply

FOB means the seller delivers the goods to the port of departure; CIF adds insurance and freight to the destination port; DDP places the most responsibility on the seller, including delivery to your door. Which term you choose changes the total cost, who handles customs, and who carries risk in transit. Confirm this in writing with your furniture supplier.

Samples and catalogs come first

Before ordering, request the product catalog and material references. Evaluating the actual build and fabric before committing to an MOQ protects both sides and makes the order process predictable.
